Trauma-Informed Care
You’re hear because you tried other methods to help heal your trauma and got nowhere!
I know why you’re here. You’re tired, overwhelmed, and your body feels like it continually competes in a triathlon. Yet, you never sleep or haven’t had good rest in a month. Possibly even years. I’m willing to bet that over the years, you’ve found yourself stuck in the same old patterns. No matter who you talk to, the same sensations of being closed off have not gone away. Heck, these sensations have more than likely gotten worse.
What most people do not understand about trauma is this is a pervasive feeling that often leaves you feeling lost and alone. Maybe even on guard or on edge. In some ways, I bet it feels like you’re the only one who’s, is going through this? Furthermore, ordinary people can’t understand what’s it is like to not sleep for hours or days on end. Breathing meditations don’t work. Calming your mind doesn’t work. At least you can sit for five minutes to try. Avoiding situations seems only to offer momentary relief, but shortly after, you feel trapped and closed off again.
You probably are experiencing more traumatic side effects than you know
The pervasiveness of trauma is more common than you might think. So much so, there are many great books out there to help better understand. But that isn’t why you are here. You’re here because you’ve tried to calm your symptoms but have had no success. It would help if you had trauma-informed care. Trauma is brutal to understand on a cognitive level. Yet, many of us spend years trying to understand how to support clients with the debilitating effects of trauma. A trauma-informed therapist knows how to work with the underlying causes of trauma and the symptoms of the trauma.
Trauma seems to stick around so long because of the deeply instilled narrative that permeates our nervous system. Remember back to being a kid and being scared when someone jumped out from behind the corner to spook you? Or maybe those scary movies you watched as a kid when you were at your friend’s house? Little did you know then that this became imprinted on your nervous system. Therefore, making you on edge with what might seem like a normal situation.
We all have nervous systems designed to protect us from harm. However, when we’ve been traumatized and have not been able to feel safe, the trauma becomes deeply encoded into our system. As a result, we become jumpy and not trusting of many situations and people. Unfortunately, these symptoms seem to linger for much longer in life’s more profound traumatic situations, such as combat trauma and sexual trauma.

You’re hear because you tried other methods to help heal your trauma and got nowhere!
Finding a clinician who has training in the leading practice of trauma-informed care can help you overcome your traumatic past. Our providers have extensive knowledge in understanding the severity of trauma and ways to help. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to trust a mental health clinician to ask for support. It takes a lot of vulnerability to work on your trauma. Our clinicians offer a safe, warm, empathetic space to facilitate the post-traumatic growth needed to reengage with the world.
Using trauma-informed care strategies, you’ll learn how your nervous system desires to control your every move. You’ll see and feel how your body tends to go into autopilot while the narrative stays the same. For example, can you identify the underlying message your mind hears when it feels anxious, or can you sit with heightened intensity to learn the real message? Not a lot of us can, therefore, reinstall the narrative “I’m not safe.” Each one of our clinicians has trained in trauma-informed ways through the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies and offers compassionate engagement. Not only do we offer warmth and kindness, but we also have the actual knowledge to help you better understand trauma.
The benefit of working with us is to use our collective 20+ years of trauma-informed care to co-create healing experiences with you. We’ll help you to untangle your trauma. In doing this, you’ll find ways to listen to your trauma and learn how to befit from creating new patterns. The reason we approach trauma this way is that every situation is different and calls for individual engagement. Consequently, as we’ve noticed with anxiety [link to anxiety page], our bodies react the same way every time. In fact, in previous versions of the Diagnosis Statistical Manual (DSM), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder was previously an anxiety disorder.
I’ve been through other therapies before, why are you different?
Great question. We’re not so different, as we’re more time tested. Our therapists have advanced training in trauma-informed care that supports you with what you where you are. So, if you want to work on your reactions to particular situations, we’ll help you understand why you do the things you do and together co-create new ways to approach situations. We won’t make you lay on the couch and tell us about your mother or father … if you don’t want to.
I’ve met a few therapists before, and they all seem like charlatans.
Sorry to hear you met a few bad seeds. It’s always those bruised or jaded apples that tend to sour the bunch. If you give us a shot, what you’ll find is we’ve been where you are. We have trauma. We learned from our trauma. Sometimes our traumas come back to haunt us too. We all engage with personal therapy or clinical supervision to ensure we know how to meet you where you are. It doesn’t take years of deep therapy to be a practical human, just meeting a great clinician who can support you in being one.
I’m afraid if we dig up everting in my past, I’ll get worse
We hear this quite a bit. It’s a real fear. We are, however, not archeologists. We don’t believe in “putting you on the couch” and “excavating the depth of your psyche.” Instead, there’s a niche called Jungian analysis. The process takes extensive training. If you are curious about that, click here to meet Sharon, a lovely warm therapist who can help you bridge the conscious with the unconscious. For the rest of us, and Sharon included, we help you address the symptoms of trauma that are debilitating you and help you co-create ways to find healthier skills to live a more enjoyable life.
Do you have any testimonials?
I wish I could help set your mind at ease here. As clinicians, we’re offered personal reflections from those we support. Clients often share they feel vastly more alive and connected to the world and their families. Consequently, we cannot share those stories. It’s illegal and just plain insensitive to solicit such. We wouldn’t want to compromise the safety of any therapeutic environment by asking for “likes” or “5-stars” for being honored to support you. It’s a dirty marketing trick that invalidates one’s struggle and is a shameful practice of therapists who have never been through the experience. You offer your trust to us when you confide in us and allow us to bear witness to the painful aspects of your trauma. We believe more profoundly in trust, and no amount of likes or 5-stars are worth violating your safety and security.
